Hire terms

The rules of the hire.

The signed agreement for your booking is the contract. This page is how Motiv operates.

The hire

Motiv is self-drive car hire for a small Merseyside fleet. A booking is a request until identity, licence, and eligibility have passed, the agreement is signed, and the deposit hold has succeeded. Keys are handed over in person after the handover walkaround.

The driver

Only the person who completed identity and licence may drive. You must meet that car’s minimum age, years held, and points limit, with no DR, IN, or CD codes and no ban in the last five years. The name on the ID must match the card.

The car

You must return the vehicle in the same condition as the handover record, at the same fuel level, at the agreed time. Damage, PCNs, fuel shortfall, and late return may be settled against the deposit hold with an itemised reason.

Money

The hire fee is a charge. The deposit is a pre-authorisation. Holds expire; for longer hires we may re-authorise. We never store a full card number or a full licence number.

Cancel

You may ask the desk to cancel any booking that is not yet active. After handover the hire fee is not refunded. Unused holds are released after the return inspection, or captured in part or full with reasons.

The contract

The signed hire agreement for that booking is the contract. These pages explain how Motiv works; they are not a substitute for the PDF you sign in the app.
